Textio raises $8M in Series A financing led by Emergence Capital

When we released the Textio Talent beta back in March, we had a simple idea: using a company’s own hiring data, we could find the linguistic patterns that drive their success. With enough of the right data, we could tell a recruiter or hiring manager which patterns attract the most candidate interest, draw the most diverse candidate mix, and fill roles fastest.

Nine months later, we are proud of our success for our customers. Nearly 2,500 companies have used Textio so far. Since we commercialized in July and began tracking ROI for our subscribers, Textio roles are filling 20% faster than non-Textio roles on average, and drawing between 12–14% more candidates from underrepresented backgrounds to apply. Phenomenal companies like Twitter, Atlassian, Square, and many others have talked about their success with Textio and recommended us to colleagues.

Last week we announced the beta launch of Textio for recruiting email, because the techniques that we’ve used to drive success in job listings can be applied to other parts of the hiring process too. And we’re not stopping there, because hiring isn’t the only part of the talent pipeline where communication matters.

To support our continued growth, we are delighted to announce that we have raised $8M of new capital in a Series A financing to extend our platform for intelligent text. The round is led by leading enterprise cloud investor Emergence Capital, with further contributions from existing Textio investors at Cowboy Ventures, Bloomberg Beta, and Upside Partnership. Gordon Ritter, Founder and General Partner at Emergence Capital, will join Aileen Lee of Cowboy Ventures on our Board of Directors.

Emergence is a world-class addition to our investment team. Their deep focus on domain-specific cloud is a perfect match for what we are all about at Textio, and their track record with companies such as Salesforce, Box, SuccessFactors, Yammer, and Veeva Systems is unparalleled in the space.

The new capital will enable us to keep doing what we’re doing, only more and better: New document types, including Textio for performance feedback. New diversity and bias dimensions. New ways to share and collaborate on documents. A growing, scaling team to join the exceptional group of customer-focused engineers, product leaders, and business thinkers who are at Textio today. (Want to join us? We’re hiring.)

Thank you to everyone who has been a part of our journey so far. Thank you especially to our customers. Every time you talk about us at conferences, tweet at us, blog about us, or send in feedback, our whole team pays attention. There is no better validation for what we’re building than your endorsement or recommendation.

Happy New Year, Textios! We’re just getting started.
